LEGAZPI CITY – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. V (MGB RO-V) is set to conduct an IEC Caravan on “Geologic Hazard Awareness and Disaster Preparedness” on May 8-25, 2017 in the Municipalities of Virac, Bato, San Miguel, Baras, Gigmoto, Viga, Panganiban, Bagamanoc, Pandan, Caramoran, and San Andres all in the Province of Catanduanes.

MGB RO-V Chief Geoscience Division Ms. Arlene E. Dayao with her team, and a Training Officer from the Office of Civil Defense are tasked to orient participants on topics, such as “Introduction to Geologic Hazards and their Effects; 1:10,000 Assessment of Geologic Hazards; Reading and Understanding Geohazard Maps; Making use of Geohazard Maps for Vulnerability and Risk Assessment; Workshop on Map Reading; Barangay Disaster Preparedness; Early Warning and Evacuation; and Workshop on Damage Analysis and Needs Assessment”.

This IEC Caravan is in line with the on-going priority program on geohazard mapping and assessment of the Bureau designed to inform, educate and help LGUs understand the use of geohazard maps and to provide opportunity for the Bureau to build strong stakeholders partnership and capacitate local officials on disaster risk reduction through heightened community awareness and preparedness through Information campaign.
