LEGAZPI CITY – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. V (MGB R.O.-V) Geology Division is blazing the trail this October with a series of activities in the Province of Sorsogon.
According to Ms. Arlene E. Dayao, Chief Geologist, her division has programmed the conduct of the following activities: Hydro-Georesistivity in Donsol this October 3-6; Groundwater Resource Assessment in Matnog, Bulan, and Magallanes this October 9 – November 7; Vulnerability Risk Assessment in Gubat this October 3-31; and the Updating of the 1:10,000 scale of Gubat on October 16 – November 5, 2017.
Division Chief Dayao added that the Hydro Georesistivity aims to find possible sources of water using electrical resistivity of rocks/soils present in the area; while Groundwater Resource Assessment is carried-out to generate a 1:250,000 scale Hydrogeologic map for the Province. Locating of existing water supply and identifying possible drinking water sources in the future are likewise undertaken; on the other hand, Vulnerability Risk Assessment targets to assess the vulnerability of elements at risk to possible geohazard occurrence that are present in the area; and lastly, the Updating of the 1:10,000 scale aims to update the existing geohazard maps conducted by the office. Chief Dayao further added that the outputs of these activities are report showing possible sources of water present in the area; groundwater inventory maps; VRA Risk maps; and an updated map on 1:10,000 scale geohazard maps, respectively.
With the objectives of these activities accomplished, the MGB R.O.-V thru this division will greatly provide basic geologic information to LGUs as their reference in their disaster risk reduction management program and comprehensive development planning.
