RD Guillermo A. Molina, Jr. IV encouraged Bicol operating mines to join in the conduct of a simultaneous coastal clean up in their area of responsibility in observance of the 2020 ICC day, this year's theme is "Safe Oceans Start at Home".
In compliance with the order, Legazpi Perlite Project of UBS Marketing Corporation in Lamba, Legazpi City; Palanog Cement Project of Ibalong Resources and Development Corporation in Palanog, Camalig, Albay; Mabilo Mining Project of Mt. Labo Exploration and Development Corporation in Labo, Camarines Norte and Masbate Gold Project of Filminera Resources Corporation/Phil. Gold Processing and Refining Corporation joined the Nation in celebrating the recently concluded International Coastal Clean Up along the coastline of Barangay Lamba, Legazpi City, Palanog Creek in Purok 3, Palanog, Camalig, Albay, and in Malubay Spring, Mabilo Creek in Barangay Napaod, Camarines Norte, and Brgy. Matalangtalang, Aroroy, Masbate, respectively.
This activity is in consistent with Presidential Proclamation no. 470, issued by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on September 15, 2003 that declared every third Saturday of September of each year as the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) day.
A total of approximately 100 sacks of wastes were collected and segregated which consists of plastic and household wastes and were turned over to their respective Barangays for proper disposal.
The incessant support and cooperation of these mining companies serves as a beacon of hope for safer and cleaner ocean in the Philippines.
