LEGAZPI CITY – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. V (MGB R.O.-V) is set to conduct Vulnerability Risk Assessment (VRA), Updating of 1:10,000 Scale Geohazard Maps and Ground Water Vulnerability Assessment (GWVA) in the targeted municipalities of Camarines Sur and Masbate, respectively.

Ms. Arlene E. Dayao, Chief Geologist, has programmed the whole month of August the conduct of the following activities: VRA and updating of 1:10,000 scale maps in Nabua, Camarines Sur and GWVA in the municipality of Cawayan, Masbate.

Division Chief Dayao explained that the VRA activity targets to assess the vulnerability of critical resources and all elements at risk to floods and landslides in Nabua, Camarines Sur; while the Updating of the 1:10,000 scale is aimed to update the existing geohazard maps undertaken by BRASS Technologies in 2013.

On the other hand, the GWVA project is carried out to determine vulnerability of resources to contamination from surface pollutants such as pesticides from farms and hazardous chemicals from industries. It also looks at vulnerability of groundwater resources to saltwater intrusion.

These valuable outputs form part of the accurate and reliable data framework of the local communities as they embark on the formulation of their Comprehensive Land Use Plan, Comprehensive Development Plan, Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plan and Local Climate Change Adaptation Plan.
