The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. V (MGB R.O.-V) as member of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council has joined together with other government agencies and private sectors in the observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month as formerly called and renamed National Disaster Resilience Month by virtue of Executive Order no. 29 issued on June 28, 2017 by President Rodrigo R. Duterte this month of July in line with the year’s theme: “Kahandaan sa Sakuna’t Peligro para sa Tunay na Pagbabago”.

As part of the priority programs of MGB R.O.-V, Mr. Louie Delos Angeles, Geologist I joined interagency disaster forum during the Provincial Roll Out of Project LISTO of the Department of Interior and Local Government – Masbate Province at Freshco Hotel and Resort, Masbate City.

The undertaking was participated in by the Local Chief Executives, representatives from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and other stakeholders. The said activity was conceptualized as mechanism to lessen the impact of foreseen disaster on the lives and properties of the people and further to capacitate the Local Government Units to be more prepared for various natural hazards and disasters in the Region.

In one Information sharing occasion, Mr. Mark Niño Miraballes the Supervising Geologist of MGB R.O.-V reached out as radio guest to the tele-radyo program of Environmental Management Bureau -V (EMB-V) entitled, “Marhay na Aga, Kapalibutan” aired at Radyo Veritas-Legazpi hosted by Ms. Jacinth R. Tacuyan and Danilyn M. Bona. Mr. Miraballes informed the listeners and viewers on the importance of geohazard awareness especially this rainy season spawned by southwest monsoon or “habagat”

In another information outreach, Chief Geologist Arlene E. Dayao and her team has conducted a two-day capacity building seminar for Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Council (MDRRMC) members on Vulnerability and Risk Assessment in Sorsogon City.

These information activities of the Office is designed to inform, educate, help and prepare local communities to manage disaster risk reduction in the context of the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System and further affords the Bureau to build strong stakeholders partnership and capacitate concerned agencies through intensive and extensive public information and education towards heightened community awareness and preparedness for various natural hazards and disasters in the Region.
