The month of May every year is declared “Month of the Ocean” by virtue of Presidential Proclamation no. 57 signed in 1999.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Month of the Ocean celebration with the theme: “Free the sea from Marine Debris” which aims to highlight the importance and significance of conservation, protection of Philippine coastal and address the global concern on plastic pollution.

Consistent with the said Proclamation, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. V (MGB R.O.-V) joined the observance of Month of the Ocean cum DENR-V People’s Day last May 17, 2019 in Sitio Tamba, Barangay Maonon, Ligao City.

OIC, Regional Director Guillermo A. Molina, JR. IV as represented by Supervising Geologist Mr. Mark Niño L. Miraballes and Information Officer Ms. Kristine May C. Baldeo as shown in the picture above, enthusiastically dished out topics on Geohazard Awareness and on Responsible Mining during the aforementioned activity which is in keeping with the mandate of the Bureau in creating awareness through Information, Education and Communication Campaign.
