December 11, 2017- marks another significant milestone in responsible mining in the Region as distinguished men and women in the industry discuss ways and means of a healthy collaborative undertaking.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. V (MGB R.O-V) conducted a one-day seminar to provinces where there is an issue on illegal mining. These are the provinces of Camarines Norte and Masbate where a large amount of gold deposit lay hidden under its bedsoil, coastlines and riverbeds.

The one-day seminar is in conformity with the instruction of the DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu during his visit in the Bicol Region last November 16 and 17, 2017. Secretary Cimatu wants to capacitate DENR field officers on mining and geosciences and to strengthen their knowledge on Mining Law enforcement.

The participants were MGB RO-V technical personnel, foresters, legal officer from PENRO Camarines Norte and Masbate and the PENR and CENR Officers of both Provinces.

Among the topics discussed during the Capacity Building Seminar were as follows:

After the discussion an open forum was conducted where participants raised questions or concerns in relation to the topics discussed or any matter within the authority and competence of the speakers.

In this degree, there must be an open and continuing training between MGB and the DENR field personnel for a wholistic way of learning. Thus, the one-day Capacity Building Seminar will hopefully bring positive changes in Mining Law enforcement in a not so distant future in the Region.
